The Skype auditions were definitely learning curves and an interesting experience. Both had a few technical difficulties such as wifi cutting out and sound not working (I had to record the first one on my phone as the software didn't work to do it on the laptop).
There was a good mixture of ages and different acting abilities in the auditions, some great, some not so great. But I think we did pretty well this time around organising them! We did have a few issues in Hartlepool as some auditionees were wondering around reception looking lost (a producer should have been there to sign them in) and one person sat outside on the seats for an unknown amount of time (again someone should have checked. Andrew said that someone was sat outside but I wasn't sure why he didn't ask him if he wanted to audition).
One bad thing about the auditions was the lack of female actors that came. Altogether two came (one old and one young) and I need two young ones. The female that came read well for Lerysa but looks more like a Gartha (can something be done?? A wig??) And there was two possible June's (one I really liked in the first round of auditions who I will more than likely cast). Just need to talk to my producer to find a suitable Gartha.
The Lit and Phil where we held the Newcastle auditions were stunning with an enormous library (and some very weird toilets that looked like a living room). We have contacts here and since we were so nice (hopefully!) they might let us film there in the future.
